Owner and Managing Director - Craig Thompson

Managing Director and owner Craig Thompson brings over 30 years experience in shipping to his hands-on role in running one of the country’s top two Australian-owned ship broking companies and the largest independent shipping agency.

Since beginning his career in a Fremantle shipping agency in 1976 Mr Thompson has worked through the ranks to learn every facet of the business before rising to management positions.

His senior postings saw him representing international shipping companies in the roles of marketing manager for Union Bulkships and Mediterranean Shipping Company’s inaugural state sales manager when the company entered the Australian market.

Before establishing Seacorp he was the senior commodity trader for premier grain marketing body, the Grain Pool of WA - a role which saw him developing a strong empathy for the needs of shippers.

During his seven-year posting with the Grain Pool of WA he held the dual postings of marketing manager for protein and oilseeds and executive manager Chartering and Logistics.

His key achievements include increasing the Grain Pool’s C & F business from 3 per cent to in excess of 55 per cent, opening up new export markets for Australian canola seed in Mexico and China and implementing wholesale marketing arrangements in the key markets of Korea, Spain & Egypt.

Furthermore, Mr Thompson played a leading role in the WA Road and Rail Freight Steering Committee to ensure grain growers’ revenue was used wisely.

Mr Thompson believes the Seacorp team will continue to win business through meeting the increasingly higher expectations of clients.

A demonstration of his willingness to add value for clients can be seen in a six figure investment in an internet export based documentary system.
