Seacorp locks in Fortescue Ship Agency contract

Aspiring iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group has contracted Fremantle ship agency Seacorp to handle the group's shipping needs for the next three years.
Seacorp said yesterday (Wednesday, March 12) that the contract, which can be extended by five years, was believed to be the biggest such deal signed in the world so far this year.
The marine service provider will handle all of Fortescue's ship agency, local representation and document execution as well as being its exclusive agent at Port Hedland.
Seacorp managing director Craig Thompson said the agency would also handle cost and freight terms in China, flagging the opening of a new office in Shanghai.
The company would open other Chinese offices closer to when the contract takes effect in August.
Set up in 1998, Seacorp is Australia's largest independently-owned ship agency and shipbroker.
