Cargo firm thinks big

Agriculture, Resource Sectors all at Sea, Sunday Times, 25 February 2007.

The resource, construction and agricultural sectors in WA are all at sea.

Coastal shipping operator Seacorp Logistics reported on Friday that exponential growth in the cargo task for its shipping service from Perth to ports in the Pilbara, Kimberley and Northern Territory had led to plans to upgrade to a bigger ship.

The service, which is partly underwritten by the WA Government, has been provided by Seacorp Logistics, a Fremantle company, since January 2006.

Seacorp managing director Craig Thompson said massive increases in the cargo task in past months had encouraged him to search for a vessel with an additional 20 per cent cargo capacity.

Plans were being finalised for a new vessel, which was due to be operating by mid-year.
