Seacorp goes global

As appeared in NT Business Review, July 2006

FREMANTLE-BASED Sea Corporation Pty Ltd (Seacorp), which recently added the port of Darwin to its list of regular berths, has just been appointed the Australian representative for the world’s largest ship agency network.

Seacorp, which is one of Australia’s largest independent shipping agencies, officially joined Multiport and its vast global network of agents on July 1.

Seacorp managing director Craig Thompson said joining Multiport meant the company could now offer customers agency representation at both the load and disport ends of the business.

“There is certainly a benefit to having the same agent at both ends as it streamlines the documentary process and provides our customer with a single point of contact”, Mr Thompson said.

“It is true to say that Multiport are extremely objective when it comes to membership, so it is certainly an honour to be invited to join them.”

Seacorp is one of the five new members enrolled in Multiport’s expanding agency network for 2006 with other agencies being appointed in American Samoa, Malaysia, Nicaragua and Syria.

Multiport secretary general Peter Titchener said Seacorp met Multiport’s stringent criteria of being independent, financially strong and having a good reputation.

Its ship agency network is represented in more than 108 countries and covers 1600 main ports.

Seacorp sails between Fremantle, Dampier, Port Hedland, Broome, Wyndham and Darwin on a 17-day cycle.
