WA Business News The Lighter Note 22-28 June 2006

Following on from lasts week’s note on Boral Concrete’s largest single concrete pour in a decade, news has come to hand of another marathon effort taking place on Koolan Island, off the far north Kimberley coast.

This time, a Seacorp vessel christened SCS Anne rendezvoused with a barge to deliver a 250-tonne crawler crane to Aztec Resource’s Koolan Island Iron Ore project for construction company, Marine & Civil. The transfer of cargo took 30 hours and involved placing a 57m boom on a barge and placing the bearers on a second barge to ensure a safe weight distribution.

Anne’s heavy lift capacity ensured the crane was transferred directly on to the piling barge.

The Note hears that Anne regularly sails between Fremantle, Dampier, Port Hedland, Wyndham, Broome and Darwin and, at 105m in length, can ship containers, break bulk and heavy lift over dimensional and hazardous cargo. What a woman!
